4. Read the
following passage and answer the questions that follow.
Marriage in the country side is an
agreement between two families or clans. Marriage in towns is becoming more and
more an agreement between a man and a woman though many marriage customs are
still being followed.
The rich and educated people get married
in churches and later money is spent in lavish ceremonies in various halls in
towns. Many marriages in towns are betweenmembers of different tribes although
this is one of the factors which may cause conflicts during the course of the
marriage.
There are some
people who avoid marriage completely. The number of educated women is
increasing, they seek equal relationships with men and therefore not ready to
get married.
On the other
hand, male migrant workers who leave their wives in rural areas are ready to
live with other women who can cook for them and maintain their houses. In
towns, men and women are looking for ways of living together both in and outside
marriage, this however leads to uncertainty and absence of permanency in the
social life of urban people.
In rural areas, children are trained by
their families to follow their customs, and they often have to go through a
process of initiation before they become full members of the tribe.
In town it is not easy
for children to receive traditional training mainly because of formal education
that takes place in schools. Parents in town have little control over the
behavior of their children which may be caused by the single parents and the
busy schedule of some of the parents.
Some children escape
from their homes and become street children and involve themselves in all sorts
of crimes.
QUESTIONS

tittle for the passage
What does the word
“countryside” in the paragraph mean?
Who are responsible for
training children in rural

marriage?
